Set in an world where Cornwall’s industry flourished into the 20th Century, ‘The Rotten Row’ was set in Hayle, which boasts a large narrow gauge network (taken over by the GWR at the grouping) as well as a quayside scene and the large, gloomy foundry of Harvey & Co.
So this is my 6.3x1.5ft 009 gauge layout. Intended to be able to visit a few exhibitions. It’s name is ‘The Rotten Row’, the area that the layout is loosely based was nicknamed this many years ago. The road’s real name is Penpol Terrace, and runs alongside Hayle Harbour on the Harvey’s foundry side of town. I had originally planned to construct a terrace, but after building some mock ups I realised it looked like every other narrow, straight layout, and I also that I didn’t like conventional half relief buildings. So I decided to build it as a freelance-ish Cornish industrial town, retaining some of the original names, but with my own spin on it. I have a ton to do still, but a lot of the big jobs are done.
